Buena Vista, Colorado

Located about 120 miles from Denver (2ish hours), Buena Vista is a great mountain escape providing expansive views, premier river rafting, mountain biking, hiking, hot springs, and a quaint historic town. Plus, you don't have to take I-70, just hop on picturesque Hwy 285 and you're here!

Eat & Drink

A lot has changed in Buena Vista over the past five years. Hit historic East Main Street for a taste of old and new. Get your palate ready for the grand tasting at The Jailhouse Craft Beer Bar in the historic town jail, sample local whiskey at Deerhammer Distilling, head to House Rock Kitchen for a variety of all natural eats, and hit The Lariat for live music and a game of pool.

Hit the Trails

Just across the bridge, on the east side of the Arkansas River lies a whole network of trails providing sweeping views of the Collegiate Peaks and Sangre de Cristo range. For the more adventurous, Chaffee County is home to 12 peaks over 14,000 feet. Click HERE for recommended hikes in the area.

Surf the Arkansas

While rafting dominates the Arkansas River in the summer, the Buena Vista Whitewater Park entices both SUP enthusiasts and kayakers alike. Follow the South Main path down to the river, you won't miss the play waves and you'll likely see some of our locals (a.k.a. current or retired pros) testing out their new tricks.

Soak & Relax

After a hard day's play, a good soak is key. Good thing there are two hot springs in our backyard in Buena Vista. The more casual Cottonwood Hot Springs is located 5.5 miles west of BV. For those looking for a more refined experience, head southwest just about 10 miles to Mount Princeton Hot Springs & Resort for cocktails and a soak.
